Yes, we all know that the health of each part of our body affects other parts of our body. However, each imbalance often manifests in a focused area. This article will examine three NEWTON homeopathics® complexes that focus on the health of the nasal cavity and nasopharynx. We will discuss the NEWTON homeopathics® Hay Fever, Throat Care, and Snore-Soothe complexes.
NEWTON homeopathics® Hay Fever is formulated for associated symptoms of late summer and fall pollens such as itchy eyes, sneezing, post-nasal drip, sore throat, and sinus pressure. NEWTON homeopathics® also manufactures a Pollen~Weeds complex for spring and early summer pollens. However, because people often move their plants with their bodies, NEWTON focuses on the plants according to the season, rather than location. For example, even though my lilacs from Wisconsin won’t bloom in Georgia most winters because it doesn’t get cold enough for long enough, I planted them anyway. I wanted avocados that were not designed for Georgia because it gets too cold; I planted them anyway and wheeled them inside the warehouse when it gets too cold. Therefore, our pollen complexes are formulated according to the time of year in which the pollen is produced.
Hay Fever includes Gelsemium sempervirens (yellow jasmine) which, according to homeopathic practice, is indicated for the streaming of water from the nose; conversely, Dulcamara (woody nightshade) is indicated for stopping of the nose. Ledum palustre (wild rosemary), Allium cepa (onion), and Kali iodatum (potassium iodide) are indicated for a cough. Bryonia (wild hops), Cistus canadensis (Canadian rockrose), and Drosera (round-leaved sundew) are indicated for sneezing. Taraxacum officinale (common dandelion) and Allium cepa (onion) are indicated for burning and stinging pain in the eyes, and Arundo mauritanica (reed grass) is indicated for burning and itching of the palate and conjunctiva. Hydrastis canadensis (goldenseal) is indicated for post-nasal discharge, and Bellis perennis (daisy) is indicated for a feeling of itching in the throat. Onosmodium virginianum (false gromwell) is indicated for a stuffed feeling in the posterior sinuses.
Other remedies are included according to the first principle of homeopathy, Similia Similibus Curentur, “Like Cures Like”. NEWTON homeopathics® Hay Fever includes Ambrosia artemisiaefolia (ragweed), Triticum repens (couch grass), and Solidago virgaurea (golden rod), among others.
Another complex for the allergy or cold season is NEWTON homeopathics® Throat Care. Throat Care is formulated for associated symptoms such as dryness, irritation, inflammation, pain, and hoarseness. Although this complex can be appropriate for sore throats due to allergies and the common cold, also think of it for a sore or irritated throat from excess singing or talking, from cheering on your favorite sports team, from coughing, or from smoking.
The NEWTON homeopathics® Throat Care complex, based on traditional homeopathic practice, includes Belladonna (deadly nightshade) and Bryonia (wild hops), indicated for a dry throat. Aconitum napellus (monkshood) is indicated for inflammation of the throat. Phosphorus and Arum dracontium (green dragon) are indicated for hoarseness, and Phytolacca decandra (pokeweed) and Ulmus fulva (slippery elm bark) are indicated for a sore throat.
If you are a professional or amateur singer, a lecturer, a sports fanatic, or a smoker, consider keeping a bottle handy. For the allergy and cold seasons, consider keeping a bottle in your medicine cabinet – remember, homeopathics have no expiration date.
The third complex I want to discuss is NEWTON homeopathics® Snore~Soothe which is formulated for associated symptoms such as congestion, constriction, gland swelling, tension, and inflammation. Although it’s often joked about, it’s no laughing matter, especially for the partner who lies awake, listening to their partner saw logs all night.
Based on traditional homeopathic practice, this complex contains Echinacea (cone flower), indicated for stuffiness of nostrils, and Nux vomica (poison nut) for stuffiness, especially at night. Camphora (camphor), Ignatia amara (St. Ignatius bean), and Drosera (round-leaved sundew) are specifically indicated for snoring.
So, if you are impacting the quality of your sleep or keeping a loved one awake while you are sawing logs, consider keeping a bottle of Snore~Soothe on your bedside table …and USE it.
Note that the remedy indications cited are according to traditional homeopathic practice and not based on double-blind randomized studies funded by pharmaceutical companies. According to the Federal Trade Commission, there is no scientific evidence that homeopathy works. Please refer to www.homeopathyusa.org (American Institute of Homeopathy – the first U.S. professional medical association) for a listing of over 5,000 research articles, or to the Homeopathy Research Institute, based in the United Kingdom, where homeopathy is a popular form of medicine.
